Platform Migration

Complete Migration finished — the game is running normally

  1. Done Migrating the databases
  2. Done Syncing the data files
  3. Done Smoke test — starting the game instances
  4. Done Hostname rollover — swapping the DNS entries
  5. Done Testing by the admin team
  6. Done Read-only access opened to everyone
  7. Done Read-only mode lifted — normal game play possible, ticks still disabled
  8. Done Ticks enabled — the game advances on its own again

Started , finished . Everything is back: you can play normally, your changes are saved, and the ticks are running again, so production, movement and research advance on their own as before. This page stays reachable.

The night shift

A starship bridge crowded with identical androids in Starfleet uniforms, each
working at a floating holographic panel full of code. The main viewscreen reads
“SpaceTrek — The New Empire”; a console in the corner lists
              modules compiling.
Arakis somewhere in the middle of the migration. The extra pairs of hands were, regrettably, not available in reality.

The move

Illustration of the migration: on the left the old stack — Windows Server
              2008 R2, .NET 4.7 and Microsoft SQL Server in a dusty, cobwebbed server room;
on the right the new stack — Linux, .NET 10 and PostgreSQL on a brightly
lit starship bridge. A starship flies through the transition between them,
above a progress bar reading “Migration in Progress”.
Moving the platform from the legacy stack to the new one.
